The European Big Data Value Forum (EBDVF) is the flagship event of the European Big Data Value and Industrial Artificial Intelligence (AI) Research and Innovation community. The event brings together industry professionals, business developers, researchers and policy-makers from all over Europe and other regions of the world to advance policy actions, and industrial and research activities in the areas of Data and AI. This year, the event will take place in Valencia, Spain, on 25 – 27 October 2023.
6G-XR partner Mario Montagud Climent, senior research scientist at the i2CAT Foundation, will be speaking in a session dedicated to enabling technologies for the virtual worlds and eXtended Reality (XR) services.
Metaverse Enablers: moving towards virtual worlds
with i2CAT Foundation

The Metaverse and its expected beneficial impacts on almost all aspects of society are a hot topic of discussion in the research and industrial ecosystems since a while. The Metaverse concept itself entails a very broad set of enabling technologies and this session elaborates on a few of them, specifically virtual worlds and eXtended Reality (XR) services. This session is split in two tracks:
- Track 1 focuses on what the three research projects funded by the EC under the SNS program Phase 1/Stream C “SNS experimental infrastructure” are working on XR and other enabling technologies for the virtual worlds.
- Track 2 focuses on the challenges and opportunities of enabling technologies for the virtual worlds from the point of view of two SMEs and two European associations, AIOTI and BDVA.
